PEER MENTORING Program

Our ADEA COSRF at UIC COD has a unique component called the peer mentoring program. This program consists  of mentors from each pre-doctorate class, who provide support to the classes in the years below to enhance their success through improved academic and clinical skills.

We developed a peer mentoring program for the following courses: D1 DBCS, D1 Anatomy, D1 DAOB, D2 DAOB, A2 DAOB, and D3/A3 Intro to Clinic. Each program's coordinator organizes sessions based on past and current classes' areas of interest for increased support. The sessions are 1-2 hours long and include mentors who donate their time to help underclassmen navigate through the challenges of the curriculum. This program encourages student collaboration among students from the same class level, other class levels and advanced standing classes with traditional dmd track classes. Furthermore, this is a great opportunity for mentors and program leaders to be introduced to a career in academia.

Become a Mentor

After D1 year, you can apply to become a mentor! At the end of the summer semester, an application will become available. If accepted, you will need to attend an orientation session and sign up for at least 2 mentoring sessions per semester.

Peer Mentor of the Year Award

Peer Mentors that go above and beyond the requirement deserve to be recognized! We developed an award to show our appreciation for their passionate contribution to their peers. You can help nominate a mentor by contacting your peer mentoring program manager.
